BROOK Road in Stourbridge will be closed to traffic for one day this weekend while repairs are carried out to a collapsed sewer which caused a hole to appear in the carriageway a few weeks ago.

The road (the B4168) will be temporarily closed from its junction with Red Hill and the entrance to Stourbridge Junction Railway Station roundabout on Sunday August 21 while the repair works are carried out by Amey on behalf of Severn Trent.

Police were prompted to close the road temporarily back in June amid fears the carriageway, by the Seven Stars pub, might collapse after a hole appeared.

Highways officers attended the scene and the hole, which appeared after torrential downpours hit the area, was given a temporary patch.

Councillor Hilary Bills, Dudley's cabinet member for environmental services, said: “We are aware of the ongoing issue with the hole in Brook Road which has been caused by a problem with a sewer.

"We will be working with Severn Trent on Sunday (August 21) to make the necessary repairs to solve the issue.

"The road will be closed throughout the day and diversions will be in place.”

Access to properties will be maintained where safe.
