A FAMILY fun day for the whole community will be taking place this weekend as Mary Stevens Hospice hosts its annual Easter Coffee Morning.

Activities taking place on Saturday (April 15) include a huge Easter egg hunt around the grounds of the hospice, and a special visit from Paw Patrol's Marshall.

There will also be raffles, bottle and Easter egg tombolas, Easter-based games and a wide array of cake, tea and coffee donated by Starbucks Merry Hill, with all the proceeds raised during the day going towards patient care at the hospice.

Laura Millard, community engagement officer at Mary Stevens Hospice, said: “It's going to be such a fantastic family day, and we’d love to see loads of local children and their families here enjoying the day.”

The free event starts at 10.30am and staff at the Stourbridge charity are urging the local community to join them in enjoying the day by saying a ‘fond farewell’ to the Day Services Unit which has served local families for 25 years.

The Hagley Road hospice’s Bradbury Day Unit will be undergoing a £3 million redevelopment starting in May 2017, to increase capacity so they can meet the demand for their services.

The work is expected to take at least 18 months, and will enable the charity to increase their attendance capacity by 87 per cent.

Laura added: “It’s a mixture of emotions really. As it's the last coffee morning we'll host here, we're going bigger and better than ever before and we're absolutely delighted that Paw Patrol will be on hand to help us do that.

“The Day Services Unit has changed the lives of so many families who have accessed our care, and it has always been an open door from which we have welcomed the public into our world, through numerous events including the Easter Coffee Morning.

“To think that after so many years that this will be the event at which we say a fond farewell to the building as we know it today, really does add something special to the day.

“So we’d love to see the public join us in force and come and give the day unit one last big hurrah!”
