AFTER shaving her head in the name of charity, a Dudley fundraiser has donated almost £2,500 to borough causes.

Dawn Hawthorne, from the Priory Estate in Dudley, shaved her head in support of Mary Stevens Hospice, the Georgina Unit at Russell's Hall Hospital and White House Cancer Support.

During her sponsored headshave at The Three Crowns Taphouse, Dawn was also supported by her friends, loved ones and local businesses in putting on a raffle, where she was able to raise £2,440 for the three charities.

Dawn said: “They're three fantastic charities that do a lot of good in our area, and support people through some incredibly difficult times.

“It's fantastic to have raised so much money for them, and I know that it will make a huge difference to the people they help on a daily basis.”

The money was split into three almost equal parts, with Mary Stevens Hospice and Georgina Unit each receiving £820, and White House Cancer Support receiving a donation of £800 Dan Malin, Mary Stevens Hospice said: “It's an absolutely fantastic effort by Dawn, and the money she's raised will make a huge difference to the families who rely on our support.

“To engage the local community in the way she did is what it's all about, and to know that so many people and businesses came together to help a remarkable woman raise a remarkable amount of money is something we're just so grateful for.

“Thank you to Dawn, and to everyone who worked so hard to help make it a success.”
