PUPILS from a Stourbridge school will be setting up shop in the Ryemarket next month as part of a unique business venture.

A group of 14-year-olds from Pedmore Technology College will be selling clothing and accessories aimed at the teenage market.

They have obtained a short-term rent free agreement with Ryemarket centre manager Kelley Dyas which will enable them to operate every Friday and Saturday in June.

The idea was developed by the school’s design and technology subject leader Kate Hunter after she encouraged a group of graphic design pupils to enter the finals of a competition run by the Black Country Enterprise Challenge.

Their proposed venture impressed Corin Gregorey, programmes co-ordinator for Dudley Education Business Partnership, to such an extent that she offered to find the pupils a suitable vacant shop where they could develop their ideas.

The shop, which will be known as ‘Lip Varvi’, is scheduled to open on Friday June 7 when the pupils will be joined by a host of local dignitaries, including Stourbridge MP Margot James.

At present, pupils are working flat out to provide accessories, bags and shop displays ready for the eagerly anticipated launch.

They are also looking at the prospect of securing support and sponsorship from town businesses and retailers.
