PUPILS from Pedmore, Red Hill, Ridgewood and Thorns schools converged on Himley Hall to take part in the fourth annual TSET Olympic event.

The four Stourbridge schools took on each other in a total of nine different sports comprising of archery, climbing, golf, lacrosse, mountain biking, rugby, softball, tennis and volleyball.

More than 600 pupils, aged 11 to 15, competed in the massive inter-school sporting event on Wednesday June 12 which was attended by The Mayor and Mayoress of Dudley - Councillor Alan Finch and his wife Heather.

Lorraine Turner, director of communications at Pedmore Technology College, said, "This has become a fantastic annual celebration of sports..

“Pedmore co-ordinates the event on behalf of the TSET schools and pupils from all four schools thoroughly enjoy the day trying out new sports in friendly, competitive sessions with skilled coaches.

“New friendships form between competing pupils and learning new skills and sports helps confidence and self esteem of children who may not participate in the more traditional team sports on offer in schools.”

Ridgewood High School was named the overall winning school of the competition, which saw T-shirts presented to all students taking part and medals handed out to event winners.

The TSET Olympic event was originally inspired by the run-up to the 2012 London Games and has been held annually ever since.
