PEDMORE Technology College will become the first school in the Midlands to host a national computing festival.
Three computing events will be held on January 30 and 31 at the school in line with a national festival.
The first event, during the day on Friday called Hack to the Future, will be held for invited pupils and will include workshops on Raspbery Pi, Minecraft, Python and Meet the Geek.
A Friday evening session will invite families from the community to compete in a three hour hackathon. The family Hack Jam will include a basic introduction to problem solving using computing tools. Teams will then need to collaborate to create solutions using their new skills.
The final event will take place on Saturday 31 January and is an open invitation to anyone with an interest in computing to join in. From 10.30am to 3.30pm various workshops, demonstrations, talks and exhibitions will be taking place.
Councillor Tim Crumpton, cabinet member for children’s services, said: “This is a great opportunity for one of our schools to get involved with a national project, made possible by the dedication of local staff. I hope that the children, staff and families from the community will all gain some knowledge and skills during the two days.”
Registration is essential and can be done via www.pedmoretc.dudley.sch.uk.
