A PEDMORE club which is due to celebrate its 50th anniversary next year has got its new season off to a flying start.

More than 40 members of Pedmore Men’s Club met for the first time in their 2015-16 season at the village cricket club’s pavilion for a talk about medieval cathedrals.

The club currently boasts about 50 members who meet once a month for a relaxed chat, usually over a drink, and listen to talks on a wide range of subjects by visiting speakers.

Talks for the current season include National Service, Stourbridge Canal and Black Country Pub Signs, but the most recent presentation was given by Alan Hall.

John Homer, club member, said: “Alan gave an impressive illustrated talk on medieval cathedrals, with many insights into building methods and finance.

“He also reminded us that for every successful surviving building we see there were many vanished failures.”

The club, which is already setting about planning its 50th birthday celebrations, also raises money for a number of local and national charities, including Samaritans and Prostate Cancer Research.

John said: “Our committee organises a number of social events during the year including, of course, out Christmas party/diner at Vesuvio restaurant in December.

“We always welcome visitors to our meeting, so why not come along at 7.30pm for an 8pm start to see if you’d like to join!”
