A WOLLESCOTE grandmother and tireless fundraiser has released a new CD to help raise money for a cause close to her heart.

Sylvia Horton, of Woodland Close, released a charity single called Destination back in 2009 in aid of Russells Hall Hospital and she said she received overwhelming interest and support from the community.

She said the lyrics came to her in a dream one night and she couldn't stop singing it afterwards, so when a similar thing happened again she felt compelled to create a new CD.

"I sat in the bath and just started singing this song from nowhere", she said.

The song, she told the News, was inspired by her friend Cheryl Cooper's decision to have her long locks shaved off while undergoing chemotherapy treatment for breast cancer.

Sylvia, who has also battled the disease, said: "It's all about being bald and beautiful. I'm singing it all the time. It's beautiful, I can't believe it's my song."

The track, entitled What You Are Is What You Are, was recorded and produced free of charge at StageQuest in Halesowen run by Rachael Rowe and Paul Webb.

Racheal said: "A lot of my family members have had cancer so I thought anything I can do to help I will."

Sylvia, a 59-year-old grandmother of 13, was unable to sing the track herself due to heart problems so vocal coach Rachael kindly stepped in - while studio volunteer Debbie Underhill provided backing vocals and the accompanying musical piano track.

Sylvia said: "I'm just proud that it's my words and I'm so pleased with the way it's going. People have already been asking for copies. I think it's going to do well."

The CD is available to buy, priced £2, from Mr Brown's Greens fruit and vegetable shop on the Queensway.

All proceeds will go to the Georgina Unit at Russells Hall Hospital in Dudley where Sylvia herself was treated for breast cancer and where Cheryl Cooper is currently receiving treatment.

More than £2,000 was also raised for the hospital through a charity night at The Miners pub last month where Cheryl and her friends Victoria Horton and Kerry Lloyd had their hair shaved off.
