A PEDMORE teacher has won a major national learning technology award.

Pedmore CE Primary School teacher Steph Ladbrooke was named joint individual winner of the Learning Technologist of the Year Award 2012 after impressing judges with her imaginative approach to teaching her year four class.

The teacher used technology-powered projects to take pupils on virtual field trips over mountains and into rainforests - and encouraged children to support each other by creating a network of learners who could collaborate virtually on a common project.

She said: “Although the award is called 'individual', an accolade like this is never just about the recipient.

“This one recognises the children - their enthusiasm, their learning and all those moments that make teaching so special.”

The award winners were announced last month at the Unversity of Manchester at the 19th annual conference of the Association for Learning Technology (ALT) - which brings together those with an interest in the use of learning technology.
