A QUARRY Bank man brutally raped a single mother he "failed to charm".

Jonathan Ngolo ignored the victim's tearful pleas for him to stop and "treated her with contempt", according to Judge James Burbidge QC.

The judge said the 26-year-old had deliberately gone after the woman and "made a significant play for her."

He said Ngolo had deliberately lied to his victim, adding: "She was somewhat naïve and you played on that.

"You homed in on her and used it to your advantage. You ignored her pleas to let her go.

"I have read her victim impact statement and she regards you as having ruined her life.

"She has significant trauma and distress because of what you did. You hoped she would be charmed, she was not, so you forced yourself on her."

Ngolo, of Wavell Road, had denied rape but he was found guilty by a jury after they retired to consider the evidence at the end of his trial at Wolverhampton Crown Court.

He was jailed for six years, four months and the judge also made him the subject of an indeterminate sexual offenders protection order and said he must register as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

Samantha Crabbe, prosecuting, said that in her victim impact statement the woman described how the crime was the worst day of her life.

She said she had been overpowered by Ngolo adding: "He left me humiliated. He has turned my life upside down and left me with a mental scar."

The woman said she wanted to believe what happened had been a nightmare and continued: "I feel ashamed of myself for falling prey to this man. It was a really degrading experience."
