THE mother of a man killed when he was struck by a lorry on Thorns Road in Quarry Bank has paid tribute to her son.

The death of Sartaj Aziz, aged 26, is being treated as manslaughter and 27-year-old Garret Fitzpatrick, from Brierley Hill, has been remanded in custody in connection with the incident which happened at around 3.30pm on Tuesday August 20.

Friends of the tragic Stourbridge father-of-two, who previously worked in the control room for Stourbridge taxi firm ABM, have been leaving tributes at the crash scene and rallying to raise money to cover the costs of his funeral.

Sartaj’s mother has been left devastated and does not wish to be named but she said in a police statement: "I would like to thank everybody for their beautiful flowers, cards, thoughts and prayers at this tragic time.

"Sartaj was highly thought of and well respected, by not only his friends and family, but the larger community in the Lye area. I was very proud of my son and he will be missed forever and a day."

Accused Garret Fitzpatrick faces trial in February next year. Meanwhile detectives continue to appeal for witnesses to the collision, who have not yet spoken to officers, to call them on 101.
