A SERIES of stage plays featuring comedy internet character Doreen proved such a hit with theatregoers that a further two dates have been added.

Quarry Bank playwright and film-maker David Tristram devised An Audience With Doreen, about a fictional out-of-work mum who suffers from ‘lazy cow syndrome’, after his spoof video Doreen’s Story went viral on YouTube.

The show made its stage debut back in October and sold out at venues across the Midlands.

Now following the huge success of the 12-date tour, David has lined up two extra theatre dates before retiring Doreen from the stage.

Comedy fans who loved the stage outings first time round or those yet to see Doreen in the flesh (played by Black Country actress Gill Jordan) can catch the show at the Garrick Theatre, Lichfield, on Sunday February 16, and The Swan Theatre, Worcester, on Thursday March 6.

David said: “This is probably the last of the Doreen shows, so we’d like to go out with a bang. We had a complete sell out for the whole tour last year, and now the Garrick’s 550 seater, which we’re performing at on February 16 is now also almost sold out, so it’s been an extraordinary response.”

Ever since David’s original mockumentary video Doreen’s Story became a YouTube sensation – notching up millions of views online – there has been talk of developing Doreen, who bemoans a life on benefits, into a TV character.

In the meantime, while waiting to hear further from TV executives, David developed the stage show and is now busy planning ‘Doreen – The Movie’ which he hopes to bring to the big screen soon following a successful crowd-funding campaign.
