QUARRY Bank is set to blossom this summer as the high street takes part in the national ‘Britain in Bloom’ scheme.

The ‘Quarry Bank in Bloom’ committee announced their plans to have flowers in place on railings, as well as free standing displays this July.

After receiving £5,000 in ‘high street improvement’ grant funding from Dudley Council’s community forum, the wheels have been put in motion in organising the area’s first ‘in bloom’ event.

Ward Councillor Bryan Cotterill, chairman of the committee, said the group – which consists of about 12 people – have been working very hard to be part of the scheme.

He said: “I really do feel Quarry Bank High Street lends itself for an ‘in bloom’ festival. They have them in Stourbridge and Halesowen so why not in Quarry Bank.

“It will be the first time we have taken part in the bloom contest and hopefully it will be a success and we will continue it in future years.

“To begin with we will place our own free standing and railing blooms along the high street, but we will be writing to local residents and traders to ask them if they would like to provide their own blooms.

“Although we are now official members of ‘England in Bloom’, we have not yet been set a judging date, but we are hopeful that it will be sometime in July.

“That will give us enough time to get the plans up and running and allow anyone who wants to be involved do so.

“If anybody does wants to put one of their own additional blooms out they will be very welcome.”
