POP star Pixie Lott pulled out all stops to help promote the charity CRY when she appeared at the BOA Academy in Birmingham.

She sang songs live on stage before answering questions from excited pupils.

Stourbridge's Peter Teale, who is the West Midlands representative for CRY (Cardiac Risk in the Young), also gave a talk to students at BOA.

Peter, of Parkfield Road, who is catering manager at Old Swinford Hospital School, lost his own daughter Zoe almost five years ago when she died from an undetected heart condition when just 23-years-old.

Since then, Peter has raised £70,000 for CRY and said: "It really helps put the message across when you get someone as high-profile as Pixie helping to raise awareness.

"I think she lost someone quite close to her through the condition, so she is doing a country wide tour of schools to help raise awareness."

CRY has already screened over 400 pupils at Old Swinford Hospital School and the hope is to take that number over 500 next year.

They also provided free heart screenings for people aged 14 to 35 at Villa Park during June.

Peter revealed: "We screened over 200 people at Villa Park and had five detections. It's all about putting the message across. There are at least 12 youngsters who die in the UK every week from heart conditions."

However the screenings don't come cheap. Each one costs £35.

As a result, Peter will continue his quest to raise funds for CRY and his next big date will be the Great North Run on September 7.
