With the chess season proper starting next week, Stourbridge chess club held their annual pre-season blitz tournament on Wednesday.
Fifteen players participated in a great pre-season blitz tournament.
We elected for an all-play-all competition with 5 minutes per player.
Jeremy Fallowfield entered the competition, so it was simply a case of would he score his customary 100%.
With Nick Arkell also playing, there was at least a chance that someone may not merely draw with Jeremy but could actually beat him.
They met in round 2 with Jeremy victorious.
Both players then swept all before them. Jeremy won with the perfect 14/14; Nick second on 13/14.
This year’s Summer tournament was also won by Jeremy Fallowfield with 4½ out of 5 with Martin Berridge and Julie Wilson tying for second on 3½.
The grading prize went to Martin for his outstanding performance, beating 3 higher graded players.
Next week we kick off the season with four matches in three days.
Two new members Chris Williamson and Aimee Erb will be making their debuts for Stourbridge.
Stourbridge are fielding teams in the Wolverhampton, Birmingham, Worcester and Dudley leagues.
