A STOURBRIDGE musician and TV extra is hoping to make waves across the Pond after landing his first film role in Hollywood.

Nick J Townsend, frontman of WEAK13, spent a week in Los Angeles, California, filming a short film entitled Chasing about a British musician who can’t give up his dream of rock ‘n’ roll stardom.

The 30-something singer, who works at Stourbridge recording studio Base Studios in Rufford Road, initially jetted out to America to promote his band and their darkly comic music video for their single Joke which is set in a mock White House press room and which sees a fictitious US president shot dead.

But as news of his impending arrival in the States spread on social media, independent film-maker and author James Craigmiles offered him the lead role of Chase in a movie, based on his book First Last Only, which is expected to be entered into various film festivals.

Nick, who dabbles as a TV extra in his spare time, told the News: “This was the biggest movie experience I’ve had. It’s the first film role I’ve had that I’ve got a credit for. I’ve had nothing but TV walk on parts in this country.”

The long-haired grunge rocker also bagged himself a role in a music documentary being filmed in LA but says he has been sworn to secrecy over the project at this stage.

He said: “I can’t talk about yet, if I do they'll cut me out of it.”

Following his successful Stateside trip, Nick now hopes to seek out further acting work in the UK and he says he’s already been invited back to LA next April to pursue further film projects.
