TIRELESS charity fundraisers have raised thousands in memory of former Stourbridge man Neil Gordon.

Family and friends have rallied around every year since Neil's untimely death in 2007 to stage a range of events from raffles and quizzes to Christmas shows and family fun days.

And the fundraising shows no signs of letting up.

Neil's dad Peter Gordon said: " We've raised over £43,000 for Charity Brain Tumour UK to date since Neil's death and the money still keeps on rolling in.

"I know some people just moan, but you don't realise just how generous some people can be.

"I'm 74 now and my wife is 73, but people still want to be involved in Neil's Appeal, so we're happy to keep carrying on.

Peter, of Osmaston Road, Norton, said Neil had three tumours removed before finally losing his battle with the disease at the age of 44.

He added: "We're still distraught about it even now. But a group of us got together and decided to try and raise some money to help fight this horrendous disease.

"Every year we've organised events. They've included numerous things from shows, annual balls and running marathons.

"We raised £10,000 in 2010 and the following three years we've added another £28,000.

"This year, we've already got £5,000 in the bank and that figure will rise.

"One of our friends from Norton Social Club, Tony Davies, has just completed the Three Peaks Challenge, while my granddaughter's fiancée Ryan Wicketts will be taking part in the Tough Mudder UK competition in late October at Windsor.

"I'm really proud of what we've achieved. Neil was six feet four and a larger than life character.

"He loved motorbikes and was a director of the family engineering business in Brockmoor before deciding to become a painter and decorator "Neil was very well-known around Stourbridge and had many friends."
