A CHARITY craft fair in Stourbridge has raised £628 to help keep Kenyan children in education.

Stourbridge couple Brian and Jan Drew, founded The Hill Wheeler School Charity in 2007 to help pupils being educated in the slum settlement of Mtomondoni.

They came across the school during a holiday in 2007 and were shocked to see that poverty-stricken students were having lessons in a building that had no water or electricity.

When they returned, they were determined to help and have raised cash to help develop the building.

They are currently trying to raise £1,000 to pay the annual school fees for eight children, which will in turn cover the wage of 12 teachers for one month.

Mrs Drew explained: "The school is really struggling because of a crisis in the economy caused by the threat of terrorism. It has closed many hotels which formerly provided work for the parents."

The recent craft fair at The Talbot Hotel, High Street, and a £209 donation from Stourbridge Brownies took the total up to £837.

Mrs Drew thanked everyone who supported the event and urged anyone interested in contributing to the cause to visit www.thehillwheelercharity.com or call her on 07860690771.
