SUPERMARKET giant Tesco is keeping tight-lipped over whether any of its stores in the borough will be among the 43 earmarked for closure.

The flagship Stourbridge Extra store in the town's revamped Crown Centre opened just 15 months ago - and supermarket bosses said on the shop's first anniversary that they'd made "the right choice to come to Stourbridge".

But a Tesco spokesman this morning (Thursday) would not rule out whether the new ring road facing superstore was in danger of closure, or whether any other stores in the Dudley borough could be at risk.

He simply said: "We have taken the difficult decision to close 43 of our stores. Our first priority is to consult colleagues who are impacted by these changes and we will be speaking to them over the coming weeks.”

Back in October, Stourbridge manager Sadie Griffiths said the new 60,000 sq ft store had seen an average of 30,000 customers through its doors each week and that the first year of trading had "gone really well".
