A STOURBRIDGE naturalist is taking part in an evening of nature, literature, music and art next month.

BBC Radio 4 and Springwatch presenter Brett Westwood will be talking about the value of bird song as well as giving a few tips on how to learn song at The Kings School, Worcester, on March 27.

Brett will be joined at the Worcestershire Wildlife Trust evening by mezzo-soprano Stella Seaton-Sims and artist Shelly Perkins.

He said: “Although we often take birdsong, and calls, for granted, we soon miss it when it’s not there.

“Whether it’s a wistful midwinter robin or the first cuckoo of spring, the sound of birds brings a new dimension to our daily round.”

Now one of the Springwatch presenters, Brett has presented and produced Radio 4 programmes such as Living World and Saving Species for more than 15 years.

In 2013 he wrote 260 plus scripts for Radio 4’s Tweet of the Day, which was broadcasted each morning and narrated by personalities such as Sir David Attenborough, Chris Packham and Bill Oddie.

The programme won Radio Programme of the Year at the Press Guild Awards in March 2014.

He since co-wrote the Tweet of the Day book, based on the award-winning series, and will be talking during the evening about the ups and downs of writing and recording a series of nearly 400 programmes, as well as holding a book signing.
