A BLACK Country firefighter who recently hung up his hose has been rewarded for three decades of service to West Midlands Fire Service.

Mark Noott, formerly of Stourbridge Fire Station, joined the fire service in January 1985 and alongside 17 other members has been presented with his 30 years service award.

Chief Fire Officer Phil Loach and Sandwell councillor John Edwards, chairman of West Midlands Fire and Rescue Authority, presented the awards during a ceremony at the service’s Birmingham HQ.

The award citation reads: “This award is made in recognition and appreciation of 30 years loyal service to the fire service and the community. It indicates the high esteem in which the recipient is held.”

Various firefighters and Watch Commanders, as well as transport engineers and distribution personnel from across the region were also honoured at the awards.

Mark, 52, has served in his hometown of Stourbridge for the last 16 years, previously working at stations in Oldbury and Dudley.

The father-of-two said he had enjoyed his time in the service.

“I’ve seen and witnessed many things during my career which will stay with me forever,” he said. “But also have many great memories.

"Being in a position to help people in the area in which I grew up, has been the most rewarding part."
