The first meeting took place in St Mary’s Church Hall, Kingswinford on January 21. The speaker was Bob Broadfield who at the age of 86 years told the fascinating story of his life in show business.

He had joined the Merchant Navy on leaving school, then went into the Army and after many adventures, back at home took a great interest in films, cinemas and local theatres, where he saw many artists who were popular at the time.

Eventually he became an acrobat and then joined with Marilyn who he married. They performed in circuses, clubs and theatres and travelled the world meeting many famous people. The next meeting will take place on February 18 with Black Country Society member Keith Hodgkins with “The last days of steel making at Round Oak”. Talks are open to members and non members with a small charge to cover expenses of £1 and £1.50 respectively.
