THE driver of a car which flipped onto its roof after hitting a lamppost in Wall Heath has been taken to hospital after walking free.

Emergency services were called to the incident, at the roundabout junction of Swindon Road and Kidderminster Road, at about 7am this morning (March 18).

The crash involved a single vehicle which collided with a lamppost and ended up on its roof in a nearby field.

West Midlands Fire Service dispatched two crews of 10 firefighters from Brierley Hill and Oldbury stations.

The car, lamppost and surrounding area was made safe by the crews which left the incident in the hands of West Midlands Police and the Highways Agency.

A spokesperson from West Midlands Ambulance Service, which sent an ambulance and rapid response vehicle to the scene, said paramedics treated one patient, who was not trapped in the vehicle, for neck pain.

The patient was mobilised using a neck brace and checked on the scene, but was later taken to Russells Hall Hospital for precautionary checks.

In the hours following the incident both the Kidderminster Road and Swindon Road were partially blocked with busy traffic while recovery work was carried out.
