A STOURBRIDGE man was one of three people arrested by West Midlands Police this morning (April 30) in relation to disorder at a local football derby.

A 27-year-old was arrested at his Pebble Close home after police released 11 images of people they need information about after violence flared after the Birmingham City v Wolverhampton Wanderers match on April 11.

Since the game detectives have been scouring CCTV footage taken on the day and have released images of suspects in a bid to get them identified as quickly as possible.

Today's arrests, which also included a 41-year-old and a 43-year-old, both from Wolverhampton, take the total number of people detained in connection with the match to nine.

Detective Chief Inspector Paul Joyce, who is leading the investigation, said: “The behaviour seen after the game was completely unacceptable.

“The violence was largely carried out by grown men who should know better and must now take responsibility for their actions that day.

“Our message is simple –if you don't come forward and hand yourselves in we'll be knocking on your door at the crack of dawn in the near future.

“The CCTV images released today have been distributed to officers who will be policing the Wolves game at the weekend – anyone pictured who shows up for the fixture will be spending an afternoon in our custody rather than inside Molineux.”

A spokesman for Wolverhampton Wanderers said: “Anyone found guilty of football related violence can be expected to be banned from matches for life.”

Anyone who recognises any of the people pictured should contact DCI Joyce on 101, quoting log number 608 of 11 April.
