A "DANGEROUS" man who savagely stabbed two Stourbridge sisters with a large kitchen knife after callously pushing their 88-year-old grandmother to the floor has been jailed for ten-and-a-half years.

John Loveridge left Amy Brookes and his former partner Jessica Brookes needing emergency surgery after lashing out with the 1’ long knife in the horrific attack on Halloween last year.

The 48-year-old then used the weapon to slash his own throat and it was only the prompt intervention of two police officers that saved his life.

Judge Nicholas Webb told Loveridge it was clear he posed a serious risk of future harm to members of the public and he ruled he would only be allowed back onto the streets when the parole board deemed him safe.

He further extended the licence of Loveridge on his release from prison by a further five years and made a restraining order forbidding him from any future contact with the sisters or their grandmother Sylvia Titley.

The Judge said Loveridge stabbed Amy Brookes three times in the neck, arm and chest and she suffered a collapsed lung in the terrible attack.

Jessica Brookes, the mother of his child, sustained a stab wound to the throat and also received a serious hand injury as she tried to defend herself - an injury that continues to cause considerable discomfort.

The court heard Loveridge carried out the attack after a two day drinking session and the judge said: “You have a history of alcohol abuse. There are also allegations of abuse by you in a previous relationship."

He said he attacked all three victims in their own home in Robins Close, Oldswinford, adding: “It is clear to me you are dangerous. A report says there is a chance of repeated offending by you and it is a report I agree with.”

Loveridge, of The Steps, Harvington, Evesham, admitted wounding Jessica and Amy Brookes with intent to cause them both grievous bodily harm.

He further admitted assaulting MrsTitley, who had a broken arm at the time, causing her actual bodily harm and possessing an offensive weapon.

Duncan Craig, prosecuting, said Loveridge forced his way into the family home despite the efforts of Mrs Titley and Amy Brookes to push him out of the property.

He then pushed Mrs Titley to the floor before grabbing Amy Brookes by the throat and stabbing her with the kitchen knife.

Jessica Brookes, who had been out shopping, then returned and she too was stabbed.

Mr Craig said Loveridge had threatened to kill the screaming Jessica Brookes and he told her he would “mark her so on-one else would ever look at her".

Loveridge then turned the weapon on himself after repeating “I just want to die” and he suffered a significant throat injury.

The two officers were able to provide first aid at the scene and they saved his life.

Christopher O’Gorman, defending, said Loveridge had now had chance to reflect on his actions and he was full of remorse for what he did that night.

Mr O'Gorman added: “What he did to the victims and to himself will remain with him for a very long time. Thankfully those two young ladies are now some significant way down the road to making a complete recovery.”

The judge told Loveridge it was an aggravating feature of the case that all the victims had now been forced to move home as a result of his brutal attack.
