A STOURBRIDGE Girl Guide is getting ready to travel thousands of miles across the world for an unforgettable, girl-only adventure in Kenya.

Elinor Jones, 18, will join eight other girls from across the Midlands on the once in a lifetime trip between July 26 and August 11.

Once in Kenya, Elinor, a leader-in-training with 1st Stourbridge Guides, will take part in community development work.

But to help pay for her trip to Kenya, she has had to carry out a number of fundraising events including selling greetings cards and taking part in bag packing at local supermarkets.

Elinor said: “I can't wait to visit a new country and meet people who are part of guiding in a different part of the world.

“I'm also looking forward to working with the Kenyan girls on the community project.”

The community development work Elinor will be taking part in while in Kenya includes supporting young women at tending The Brainhouse Academy, a school based with the slums of Nairobi - giving them a taste of her guiding experience and sharing new skills.

She will also accompany young women from the school on Kenya's first international camp.

Every year, Girlguiding sends hundreds of young women on international trips across the globe - allowing them to explore new cultures as well as develop a sense of adventure.
