A TERRIFIED grandmother has told of her ordeal after being confronted by armed robbers at the convenience store where she and her grand-daughter were working.

The pair - who asked not to be named - were on duty at Select & Save on the Kingsway in Wollaston on Sunday night when the raiders struck.

She said: "It was a round 9.15pm and we were starting to clean up as the store closes at 10pm.

"I'd just gone to fetch a broom when I heard the door go and my grand-daughter nodded towards me to say someone was standing there.

"From a distance, it looked as though they were wearing crash helmets but when I moved closer I could see they had hoods and scarves over their faces. You couldn't see their faces and they were wearing gloves.

"One of them stood by the door while the other went behind the counter and helped himself to four packets of cigarettes. He then went over to where the rizzler cigarette papers are kept and took some. Then they just left.

"I didn't realise until my grand-daughter told me one of them had a gun and had told her to send over the money. But she had frozen to the spot.

"It was all a bit of a shock and an experience I wouldn't want to go through again."

The raid was one of a number of attacks on convenience stores across the Stourbridge area on Sunday evening.

Armed raiders also struck at Premier Stores in Malvern Avenue, Lye, at around 7.30pm, The Wine Cabinet in Quarry Bank High Street just after 8pm, and The Rock Fryer in Hill Street, Brierley Hill, just before 10pm.

On each occasion the robbers are believed to have brandished a handgun, although nobody was hurt in the raids.

Police are now examining CCTV footage at each location and are appealing for witnesses or anyone with any information to contact them on 101 or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
