Dudley South Ladies Luncheon

The first luncheon in the new year held on January 8, was chaired by Mary Jones who wished 31 members a happy and healthy 2016, welcoming back long-standing member Pat Chance after a long absence. The chairman was also pleased to confirm that The Lodge, Wellington Road, Dudley would now be the club’s permanent home and thanked the directors and general manager for making them so welcome. The three course meal and service was excellent and so was speaker Clive Garner who demonstrated the art of silk painting.

He used the stage and an easel on which to place his frame covered in light weight silk with a tracing of exotic birds and plants. He explained the preparation and processes needed before painting, how to apply it and even how to cover up any mistakes. He had brought along a selection of items already completed, such as silk scarves, ties, paintings, cards and necklaces, if members wished to purchase them.

Ann Rogers was looking into the possibility of a visit to Himley Hall for a tour and afternoon tea and asked for help in finding parking for future coach outings. Pauline Handley was busy arranging speakers for the 2016-2017 programme which would be available after the Annual General Meeting.

Members were reminded that the AGM would be held February 12, when the annual subscription of £10 would be due, and by popular request Speaker John Sparry will be delighting us with his local character stories. In March the speaker would be Chris Smith a Local Historian.

We meet on the second Friday each month. Visitors are most welcome and can attend 3 times before deciding to join. Enquiries to secretary on 01902 372984 or chairman: maryjones30@sky.com
