POPULAR Worcestershire County Cricket Club skipper Daryl Mitchell will officially open his benefit season in Stourbridge next month with a trip to the Craddock Brewery.

Opening bat Mitchell will be given a guided tour of the Coventry Street premises on Thursday, January 28, where he will be sampling some of the Craddock ales on offer as well as enjoying a pie and mash meal.

They’ll also be some traditional music taking place supplied by Wilf’s Carnival Band.

Mitchell first played for Worcestershire at Under-11 level and went onto progress through the age groups before signing his first professional contract in 2003.

He has since clocked up 9,215 first class runs which includes a top score of 298.

There are a number of other benefit events planned throughout the year, which will include an official dinner at Lords, a mid-summer ball, a legends match against Warwickshire plus quiz and curry nights, when it is hoped some of the Pakistan touring side will attend.

Anyone who would like tickets for the Craddock’s Brewery trip, which cost £20, should contact Mark Ashbourne on 07506 747619.
