MORE than 300 members of Stourbridge and District Scouts celebrated St George’s Day with an afternoon of activities in Mary Stevens Park.

The scouts kicked off their annual celebrations on Saturday April 23 with a parade from the council offices down Queen's Drive to the bandstand.

A host of action-packed activities were also laid on in the Norton park throughout the afternoon including circus skills workshops, facepainting and demonstrations of woogle-making and woodturning, thanks to the Bromsgrove-based Burcot Woodturners, to help showcase what the Scout Movement has to offer both young people and adult volunteers.

There were also climbing walls, a zip line - plus demonstrations by members of Stambermill based Academy Martial Arts, resuscitation training laid on by staff from Russells Hall Hospital and the cutting of a giant birthday cake made by a volunteer from Amblecote Scout Group to mark 100 Years of Cub Scouting, 75 Years of Air Scouting and 30 years of Beaver Scouting.

Tim Castle, lead volunteer for Stourbridge District, said: “This is the second year we have organised an activity day in Mary Stevens Park for St George's Day.

"Having an open invitation to the whole community meant all of the various activities were enjoyed by everyone.Stourbridge News:

"It was a successful afternoon and good to see young and older people of Stourbridge celebrating together. This would not have been possible without the time and effort put in by all of our adult volunteers."
