THE death of a popular Stourbridge coffee shop owner has not yet been established by a post mortem.

Melissa Davey, the co-owner of Market Street-based Grey’s Coffee Bistro Lounge, passed away at her Hagley home in the early hours of Monday morning (May 2) at the age of 49.

Close friend and former boyfriend Lee Irwin, who lived with Melissa for 10 years, said the cause of her death is not yet know.

Lee told the News: “It was such a shock as I had only seen her the day before. She had gone out on Sunday afternoon to walk her dogs and she was fine and well.

“The initial post mortem has not yet established the cause of her death, and the family are waiting for further post mortem reports.

“No one saw this coming. Everything was going well for her; the coffee shop has been so successful and was doing extremely well and she was really looking forward to going to Hong Kong.

“Just seeing the tributes that have been paid to Melissa, shows what a lovely lady she was. Everybody loved her, but it proves that sometimes life isn’t fair.”

Originally from Kidderminster, Melissa went to Holy Trinity School before starting work for her father’s advertising company. She then spent a long time working in advertising before her dream of running a coffee shop became reality in August 2015.

Lee added: “It was always Melissa’s dream to own her own restaurant and coffee shop.

“She was always cooking and baking. All the cakes that were sold in the shop were homemade by her. What Melissa and Sally have done with that shop is phenomenal.”

Melissa’s funeral will take place on Thursday May 19 at 2.15pm at St John The Baptist Church, at Hagley Hall, with Lee inviting all who want to say their goodbyes.
