AUTHOR and gardener Katherine Swift will be kicking off a new summer season of talks at Stourbridge Library.

Katherine, author of the The Morville Hours and The Morville Year, will be at the library on Tuesday May 24 from 6.30pm to 7.30pm to talk about her books.

The author, who is published by Bloomsbury, designed the garden at the Dower House in the grounds of Morville Hall, near Bridgnorth, and the creation of the garden is the subject of her first book, The Morville Hours.

She’s also been a garden columnist for The Times newspaper and her second book, The Morville Year, is based on her columns.

Jen Beardsmore, head of Dudley’s libraries and archives, said: “Katherine worked as a rare book librarian in Oxford and Dublin before moving to Shropshire and becoming a full-time gardener and writer in 1988. The garden she made at Morville, and the history, geology, wildlife and people of the village, form the backdrop to her writing. She is currently working on a third volume called A Rose for Morville.”

Young Stourbridge gardener Adam Greathead, home wine-making expert Tom Keys and Stourbridge glass expert Graham Fisher have been lined up for future talks on June 23, July 28 and August 17 respectively.

Tickets for the Katherine Swift talk are £3 including refreshments which will be served from 6pm.
