A STOURBRIDGE choir hope to hit all the right notes when they perform in one of the largest youth musical festivals in the world.

The town’s Got 2 Sing Youth Choir discovered this week that they have been invited to take part in the Music for Youth National Festival 2016 at Birmingham’s Symphony Hall on July 6.

Celebrating the UK’s most inspiring young musicians, the event will involve more than 40,000 musicians, in 50 venues across the country, between July 5 and 9.

Theresa Pearson, choir leader, said: “We are delighted to have got through to the National Festival.

“It means so much to the members who have put in an enormous amount of hard work for this. I’m extremely proud of them.”

The Stourbridge singers will perform on the same day as 22 other choirs, comprising groups of all ages who perform show tunes, contemporary, pop, choral and classical pieces.

They have a 12 minute performance slot and are set to sing ‘Wings’ by Birdy, ‘I See The Light’ from Disney’s Tangled and Adele’s ‘Rolling In The Deep’. The choir will also be participating in several vocal workshops throughout the day.

Comprised of 24 members and whose ages range from nine to 16, they originally submitted a recorded entry to the regional festival and received feedback from the esteemed former head at the Brit School and West End musical director David Beer.

He said: “A very strong ensemble sound, with good vocal energy, secure tuning and clear diction. A very well-rehearsed and enjoyable performance…an excellent blend of voices, considering the age range. A mature, unforced sound.”

In preparation for their national festival appearance, the choir will be singing at Mary Stevens Hospice on June 12 as part of the charity’s celebrations to mark the Queen’s 90th birthday.
