MOTORISTS are warned they may face delays when vital work is carried out in Amblecote which will see the High Street made temporarily one way.

Dudley Council will be resurfacing the busy A491 High Street which will see the main road made one way towards the ring road between Collis Street and St John’s Road.

The work will take place from July 25 to 29, on July 31, as well as from August 1 to 3 and on August 7 and 14.

Delays are expected but traffic bosses hope to minimise disruption and congestion for motorists by carrying out the work during the school holidays and during off peak hours only - 9.30am-3.30pm.

Councillor Hilary Bills, Dudley’s cabinet member for environmental services, said: “This is essential work to make sure the road condition is acceptable to drive on.

“We have requests throughout the year to repair the roads and as a community council we are listening.

“As you’d expect there will be a certain amount of disruption for people travelling through that area, but we are doing everything we can to minimise disruption for people wherever possible.”

A diversion will be in place for northbound traffic along Bath Road, Enville Street, Bridgnorth Road, High Street, Wollaston and Wollaston Road.

The council says it received around £9million from the Department for Transport’s Challenge Fund last year towards repairing major roads over a three-year period.
