MORE than 200 cub scouts and 70 leaders from across Stourbridge took part in the cub's Jungle Jam 100 camp to celebrate the centenary of the organisation.

Between Friday (July 15) and Sunday (July 17) the youngsters camped out at Blackwell Adventure Centre in Bromsgrove with more than 1,140 other cubs and volunteers.

The cub packs from Amblecote, Wollaston, Oldswinford, Norton, Bromley Pensnett, Pedmore, Halfpenny Green, St. Thomas’ and Wordsley took part in numerous activities, including archery, climbing, caving, zorbing, zip wire, 3G swing, and swimming.

Maddy Rees, aged 10, from St Thomas’ cub pack, said: “Camping is my favourite activity and it was great to spend two nights away from home.

“I especially enjoyed the zip wire, and going on the high above the ground at speed, As well as going swimming outdoors which was cold, but I did not mind.”

The theme of the weekend was the ‘Jungle Book’ with the youngsters watching the popular film on the Friday night before settling into their tents for the night.

Following a day full of activities on the Saturday, an evening fancy dress party was held where everyone dressed up as characters from Rudyard Kipling's classic, before a closing ceremony ended the weekend on Sunday afternoon.

Catherine Ball, a leader with St Thomas’ cub pack, said: “It is great to see the kids having a great time. As a leader I’ve enjoyed the weekend, and having great times such as this.

“I volunteered to help develop young people, but I stayed because it’s great fun.”
