RESTORATION work at Stourbridge's flood-hit Bonded Warehouse is on track to see the venue ship shape in time for its annual open weekend which attracts waterways fans from far and wide.

The Canal Street venue was hit hard by flash flooding caused by torrential downpours in June, which left the street under water after the Stourbridge Canal overflowed and the River Stour burst its banks.

Work to fix the damage caused at the grade II listed Bonded Warehouse and Stourbridge Navigation Trust office has been carried out over the last few weeks and external repairs are now complete.

The buildings need to be left to dry out ahead of the internal works getting underway - but Trust volunteers have confirmed the venue will be ready in time for the annual Canal Street Open Weekend on October 15 and 16.

Open weekend organiser Heide Barratt said: “We look forward again to welcoming visitors to this free event with attractions for all the family.”

The two-day event typically sees more than 100 narrowboats descend on the Stourbridge Arm Canal and also includes a host of stalls, canal boat trips and a display of vintage vehicles, steam engines and fairground organs.

There are still a few pitches available for non-food traders in the outside areas. For details call 01384 395216.
