A GROUP of restaurant and hotel staff from the Black Country put their best foot forward as they braved the rain during a 26 mile walk-a-thon for charity.

In spite of the weather, staff from the area’s Whitbread companies were able to complete their walk from Stourbridge’s Brewers Fayre pub to Birmingham and back in just under seven hours.

But more importantly, the group were able to raise more than £2,100 for the pub’s supported charity Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH).

Neil Woodall, duty manager, who organises a number of fundraising events for the charity at the Birmingham Street pub, said: “Despite getting caught in three torrential downpours we managed to complete the walk in just under seven hours. We also managed to raise over £2,100 which is better than last year.

“All of the team members were back on shift the following day, despite the aches and pains!”

Next year Neil and his team plan to extend the distance and are also considering making their now annual walk an over-night event.

Neil added: “We want to do whatever we can to raise even more money for Great Ormond Street Hospital.

“I have also just registered to compete with Gordon Ramsey’s team in the London Triathlon in July 2017, this will also be raising funds for GOSH.”
