A POPULAR former Wetherspoon bar in Stourbridge town centre is set to re-open this month after a £500,000 refurbishment.

High Street watering hole Lloyds Bar was purchased by Amber Taverns in May with the hope of turning its investment into a modern town centre community pub.

But many regular customers had been left disappointed that the premises had been closed for so long, which the new proprietors said was “unfortunately due to the scale of the investment”.

However, the popular pub, formally known as the Edward Rutland, will finally re-open its doors at 10am on Friday September 30.

Ricky Hunt, licensee, said: “I cannot wait for this new pub to open in Stourbridge, I think customers will like the new look.”

The pub, which has had a complete refurbishment and an extension to the beer terrace at the rear, is set to become an adult only venue due to Amber’s operational policy to not sell any food or admit anyone under 18-years-old.

Jonathan Smith, area manager, said: “We have 125 pubs across the country and we class them all as wet led – creating an adult drinking environment and offering a full range of drinks that consistently delivers value for money for our customers.”

Regular entertainment and events will take place at the pub throughout the week, while also including a full Sky and BT Sports package screened on multiple TV’s and a new four metre large screen.

To mark the opening, customers are being given a chance to win VIP tickets to the pub’s preview evening on September 29, which can be found at Amber Taverns' Facebook and Twitter pages.
