FOOTBALL fever has gripped Stourbridge as the town’s club face 90 minutes which could mark the greatest moment in their 140-year history.

The talk of the town is all about Stourbridge FC’s second round FA Cup tie on Sunday (December 4), where the lowest ranked club still left in the competition hope to pull off an enormous giant killing in the form of League One outfit Northampton Town.

A win at Amblecote in the 2pm kick off will net the team a place in the ‘holy grail’ of the third round alongside the likes of Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal – something the non-league club has never done before.

But for those fans who were not lucky enough to pick up a ticket for one of the biggest games the club has ever faced, the Stourbridge News has got you covered.

With no live televised coverage of the game after being sensationally snubbed by BBC and BT Sport, the News’ live blog will keep readers up-to-date with all the action from the War Memorial Ground – as it happens.

One of those who did manage to grab one of the 2,600 plus tickets for the sell-out is the Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Mohammed Hanif, who said he was “delighted” to see his local team make it through to the second round of the competition for the fourth time in six years.

He said: “It really is a fantastic achievement for the club, making it to the second round of the FA Cup is something not many non-league teams do, so for Stourbridge to do it as often as they have just shows the strength of the club.

“Being my hometown club, it is great to see them doing so well and getting the national recognition the team deserves. I wish them all the very best for Sunday and I can’t wait to be there to cheer them on.”
