FOUR Stourbridge explorers have been honoured with the highest award achievable for young people in Scouting.
The quartet of Warrior Explorer Unit members, who meet at the Alderman Tye district headquarters, in South Road, were presented with their Queen’s Scout Award badges by Mark Bache, lead adult volunteer for the Black Country area, and the Mayor of Dudley, Councillor Mohammed Hanif.
In order to receive the award, Thomas Lowcock, Thomas Delves, Greg McArthur and Riannon Priddey had to complete a variety of challenges, including taking up a new skill for at six months, take part in a physical activity, carry out community service for 12 months and complete a four day and three night scouting expedition in the Lake District.
Riannon said: “Gaining my Queen’s Scout Award has been a life changing experience.
“One of the best things I have ever done in scouting was having a real adventure completing my expedition – hiking over 50 miles across the Lake District.”
Mike added: “This is such an achievement for the young people to get, but would not have been possible without their own determination, and the time put in by their leaders to help them achieve.”
