A CHARITABLE Stourbridge teenager has given the fight against cancer a big boost after raising more than £1,000 at a coffee morning.
Aimee Potter, 16, is currently studying for her A levels at Old Swinford Hospital School but she selflessly gave up her time to help raise money for those affected by the disease.
The teen baked a variety of tasty treats and held a raffle during the event, in the hope of raising the dough for Cancer Research UK and Mary Stevens Hospice.
Aimee said: “My grandmother died from cancer and someone very close to me is currently dealing with cancer and its effects, so I thought I should try and do what I could to help others who have been affected by cancer.
“I chose Cancer Research and Mary Stevens Hospice as my charities because, as well as the personal connection, I felt that this was a good way of using the money to help the general fight against cancer and help on a more local level for those directly around us.
“All the food available was cooked by me in the week leading up to the event, and I also organised the raffle itself, both in terms of money and the organising of prizes and tickets.”
All of Aimee’s efforts paid off as she was able to raise £1,100 which she will now divide between the two causes.
She added: “I want to say thank you to everyone who donated towards the events and a massive thank you to everyone who came to the coffee morning who helped to raise the £1,100 that will hopefully be able to make a difference for people.”
