POLICE are appealing for information after thieves stole copper pipes from the roof of a Stourbridge supermarket - causing its fridges to shut down.

The theft at Waitrose in The Ryemarket is believed to have taken place in the early hours of Monday February 20.

Store manager Joel Perkins, who took up post in January, said the incident resulted in a loss of refrigeration and stock - as it affected a number of chillers on the shop floor.

But he said partners at the store "were absolutely amazing in pulling together to get back up and running for our customers".

Some of the chillers were quickly restored the same day after maintenance workers acted swiftly to repair the damage and the remainder were back in action towards the end of last week.

Mr Perkins added: "Customers were really understanding and supportive - and really shocked that something like that happened."

Anyone with any information about the theft is asked to call police on 101, quoting 20DY/37305L/17.
