Stourbridge Chess Club

This week Stourbridge chess club had two matches in the Dudley league which tends to be played later in the season In division one, Stourbridge faced Halesowen. Halesowen fielded a surprisingly weak team especially on the bottom two boards. Thirty minutes into the match and Stourbridge were ahead on all four boards. Dave Scriven, Eric Horwill and Colin Woodall all converted their advantage into a win but Sam Bradley had to settle for a draw on board 3. The final match result was 3½-½.

In the division two match against Boldmere, the four Stourbridge players – Ron Evans, Tony Shaw, Richard Wilkinson and Chris Cox all drew resulting in a 2-2 drawn match.

There was some more good news on Thursday when Warley Quinborne ‘B’ lost their final Birmingham division 2 match. This means that Stourbridge are now safe from relegation and are now looking for some stronger players to boost their squad for next season,
