Stourbridge Chess Club
With chess season at an end, Stourbridge chess club has started on its program of summer activities which enable members to stay in form and prospective members to come along and try their hand.
Stourbridge chess club’s summer tournament started on June 14. In the first round of a Swiss tournament the top half of the field are paired against the lower half. All the games followed form except for the game between second team player Chris Cox and the club’s best player Nic Fallowfield. . Chris played a great game against Nic and had a better pawn structure in a rook and 6 pawns endgame when he accepted a draw.
Several members were away on holiday and took half point byes.
4 Stourbridge players represented Worcestershire in the national semifinal for players graded under 140. Worcestershire drew the match against Lancashire 8-8 but lost the match on board count. Stourbridge players Paul Sharratt, Eric Horwill, Sam Bradley and Jeremy Humphries all drew their games.
