Broome WI

The speaker at our last meeting was Janice Bell who showed us the basic skills for making Focaccia Bread. The ingredients required are flour, yeast, salt and water to which herbs such as oregano, rosemary or thyme can be added . We watched her knead the dough and while she was doing this she told us about the small bread making workshops which are held in her kitchen in Bewdley. Janice also explained how she did each stage of the preparation and as in true Blue Peter style she had prepared the dough before hand to various stages and at the final stage she added a little olive oil to the top of the bread with a sea salt topping before scoring the top of the dough. The risen dough was then placed in a hot oven for twenty minutes. Once the bread was cooked it was left for about ten minutes before Janice divided the bread into small pieces for us to sample it was delicious.

The group are joining Wychbury WI in June to hear speaker Frances Benton who is talking about a ‘Passion for Pearls’.

We have a full programme of events for the coming months including lunch at the Four Stones, Clent, a garden visit, a group walk round Kinver Edge followed by supper and a BBQ at the end of July.
