Stourbridge Ladies Society

Members and visitors met at the Amblecote Room in September to hear Mary Bodfish give her talk entitled “The Baby in The Locket.” Before the talk started the chairman Mrs Hall welcomed everyone including Ms Bodfish to the meeting. She then told us that Mrs J Perry had sadly died and condolences were being sent to the family on our behalf. We were updated on the condition of D. Cooke, the vice chairman, who is recovering from surgery following a fall during the summer.Mrs Hall informed the group that the date of the Christmas Party had had to be changed to December 19. We were reminded by Mrs J Russell that the outing to Marsh Farm was to start at 11am and would be followed by a visit to a local garden centre.

Ms Bodfish then commenced her talk. She explained that she had inherited from her mother a locket containing a photo of a young baby. Unfortunately by this time there was no family members left to give the baby a name and to tell the baby’s story. Mary also realised that she knew very little of her maternal family tree other than her grandparents’ names. Starting with this information she was able to progress back through time until the early 1800’s, finding out a little about each generation. She finally discovered when the baby in the locket had been born and what had happened all those years ago and was able to name and put the baby into the family history.

The Ladies Society meets on the last Tuesday in the month in the Amblecote Room at Stourbridge Town Hall at 2pm. Come and join us for interesting speakers and to meet a friendly group of ladies. The next meeting is on October 31 when we will be having a HARVEST BRING AND BUY SALE. For information phone Mrs M. Hall 01384 288841
