A MAN is no longer thought to be in critical condition after suffering injuries in an incident in Stourbridge in the early hours of Saturday (November 25), police have confirmed.

The 23-year-old man had serious head injuries and was in a critical condition when he was rushed to hospital following the drama which happened at an address in Vauxhall Road at around 1.30am.

A 39-year-old man was also taken to hospital after suffering a gunshot wound to his arm and is reported to still be in a stable condition.

Police on Monday confirmed the 23-year-old is still in hospital, but is no longer thought to be in a critical condition.

The incident left the entrance to ABM Taxis and the side of the Station Cafe taped off and surrounded by police vehicles - as Stourbridge prepared for its annual Christmas lights switch on event later that day.

Three men, aged 40, 28 and 21, and a 22-year-old woman, who were arrested on suspicion of wounding following the incident have all been released without charge, a spokesman for West Midlands Police confirmed.

Abdul Qadus, who runs the Station Cafe, said of the drama: “When I came to open the shop the carpark was cordoned off. When I asked what had happened officers said they couldn’t discuss it." 

ABM Taxis was still operating as usual on Saturday, although a police cordon did prevent members of the public from walking directly into the office off Vauxhall Road during the morning.

The incident comes just a week after armed cops swooped on Stourbridge High Street last Saturday night (November 18) after a female police officer was confronted by a man, believed to armed with a gun, at a property in Park Street.
