A CONVICTED Stourbridge pervert breached a court order barring him from having any contact with youngsters by working on a fair in the town, a court was told.

Steve Gubbins had been given a Community Order for child grooming and made the subject of a Sexual Harm Protection Order - Phillip Brunt, prosecuting, told Wolverhampton Crown Court.

He said the order barred Gubbins from having contact with youngsters under 16 but he then worked at a fairground in Market Street, Stourbridge, taking money off children for rides.

Mr Brunt said "it was a flagrant breach of the order" by Gubbins who had also breached the requirements of registering as a Sex Offender by failing to report to police.

Gubbins, now of no fixed address, admitted breaching the two orders and he was given a six-month jail term - suspended for 18 months.

Peter Hemming, defending, said Gubbins was short of money and needed a day's work to put some cash in his back pocket at a time when he was living on the streets.

"He went to the fairground for financial gain," he told the court.

But he added that Gubbins had been in custody since his arrest and said he was now determined there would be no further breaches of the orders.

Recorder Michelle Heeley QC told Gubbins it was serious offending because the orders had been made to prevent him having access to children.

She told him: "You breached them by working with children at the fairground. The court takes this kind of offending seriously but there is hope for you."
