Kinver Old People's Welfare will be handing out their annual Christmas Shopping Vouchers on Friday, December 7 to the residents of the parish of Kinver.

Vouchers will be distributed between 9.30am and 1.30pm at the Senior Citizens Rooms, Legion Drive, Kinver.

This annual windfall for ladies over 60 and men 65 (who receive an elderly persons pension) is made possible each year by generous donations from The Ken Wrigley Memorial Charity who’s benefactor Ken Wrigley (late of Kinver sawmills) left a legacy to the village.

The welfare was the brainchild of Ken and his wife Rose and after their death and has been carried on by a dedicated committee.

Other donations to support the voucher scheme each year, come from Kinver Darts Club and The Monday Bingo Club, which meets in the Constitution Club.

Each year the Wrigley Memorial Charity donate £5,000 towards the vouchers. A further £300 comes from the Bingo Club and the dart club gives between £240 and £320..

The voucher worth £6 can only be spent in shops in Kinver, and outlets will display a notice displaying 'Old People's Welfare Vouchers accepted here'.

An average of £5,500 to £6,000 is given out each year in vouchers which, in turn, is spent in Kinver shops.

To claim a voucher people must have address proof by bringing their Council Tax details showing that they are registered with South Staffs District Council.

They will also need proof of age.
