LAW abiding South Staffordshire folk are being urged to get more involved with local policing in their community.

County Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis wants people to step forward and get involved with the Safer Neighbourhood Panel which was launched last March.

More volunteers are required to help shape the work done by police at local level.

The panels are designed to hold the local policing team commander to account in addition to looking at wider criminal justice and community safety issues within their area.

Panels will comprise of residents along with local magistrates and councillors who, in turn, will feedback to the communities which they represent.

Mr Ellis said: “This is a real opportunity for people in South Staffordshire to play a part in holding all responsible for policing in their area to account and I'd urge residents to get involved.

“I make no apology for believing that truly local policing and the public playing a part in influencing that policing is vital.

“You can shape policing at the most local level in your community by joining the Safer Neighbourhood Panel.”

Volunteers are being encouraged to join from all walks of life but must be over 18 years of age and should email h.marshall@sstaffs.gov.uk
